Since 1988, The Sándor Collection has been preserving Hungarian handcraft techniques and motifs through our line of traditional textiles, and with our wood and ceramic hard goods. In helping our artisans in Eastern Europe create unique, beautiful and functional works of art for your home, we have also done a lot to improve their quality of life during a difficult transition away from communist rule. We teach our artisans how to develop products for the Western Market; we provide them with a fair income, and in turn our artisans help to keep their extraordinary craft traditions alive for future generations.
At The Sándor Collection we have always recognized the importance of helping not only the people and cultures of our world, but also the very world in which those people and cultures live. In keeping with those beliefs, we have set our sights on a further goal . . . sustainability.
In 2004, we began working with our textile suppliers to create an exclusive line of felted wool that would satisfy the needs of our customers as well as those of our artisans. That special new felt is also 100% Eco-friendly made from all natural materials that do not affect our precious environment. Additionally, our sustainable felt is vividly colored with biodegradable, non-toxic dyes. Even the gift boxes that we use for our line of decorated eggs are made from recycled materials.
In addition to our products themselves, we have pledged to reduce our impact on our environment in another important way; we will reduce the amount of paper that we use. That means no more paper catalogs. Since 2005 we have worked to transfer our immense catalog to our new home on the World Wide Web. We invite you to explore our online catalog and discover some of the exciting contemporary and traditional designs that we bring to the American Market from Hungary, Bosnia and Romania.
Whether this is the first time you’ve seen our products, or you’ve been our customer in the past, you should know that we work closely with actual artisans and master craftsmen to create new products based on classical Hungarian motifs that we find in museums, churches, historical buildings and restored ethnographic texts, as well as keeping the craft techniques alive with contemporary designs from the minds of our design team here in the USA. Being based in the United States gives us the further ability to provide custom, private label, and one-of-a-kind items to our valued customers. So if you have your own idea, or if you simply like something you see here, please contact us for details.
